Blog coming soon

My name is Molly Lackey. I am an artist and writer. I am beginning this website, along with my YouTube channel and email newsletter, to document and share my art and writing. I hope that, in my work being found, seen, and read, it might bring others some of the joy and solace that making it brings me.

Some of my earliest memories are of drawing, painting, and writing. I remember the portrait I painted of my favorite teddy bear; the first time I tried to draw a person who wasn’t just a head with legs and, consequently, my first brush with the limitations of my technical abilities — “Oh, that a man’s reach should exceed his grasp or what’s a heaven for!” Art and stories — enjoying and creating — was absolutely crucial to my formative years. But, like so many of us, self-induced pressures and insecurities made me set it mostly aside in my late teens. I found myself in academia, tired and numb.

A few years ago, in the middle of a particularly hard season in life, I started drawing again. I think it saved my life. Since then, I have been slowly rebuilding my art and writing practice in the hopes of once more experiencing that love and joy that sustained me in my adolescence.

The world is in a really weird spot right now, but I am hopeful that we are on the cusp of a resurgent and renewed love for all things good, true, and beautiful. I believe in human things, especially art, as being intrinsically valuable. In an age of increasing automation and digitization, I am using my art and my interactions with great works of the past to reinforce that love, and I hope you will join me in that renewed pursuit.

While I will be posting at least monthly on this blog, I also encourage you to sign up for my email newsletter, which I will be sending out weekly. You can also find additional work on my YouTube channel. I will always try my best to respect your time with me here (especially since it is, by definition, screen time!), and I hope you will forgive the growing pains I will doubtlessly feel as I start out.

Thank you so much for joining me. My prayer for you is that you will know that it is never too late to start pursuing beauty.

Molly
